Vectorize ICO to SVG — Scale Any Icon Up
An ICO tops out at 256 pixels, which is fine for a browser tab and useless for a printed sign. Tracing it to SVG converts those pixels into vector shapes that stay sharp at any size — genuinely useful for icons in a way it is not for photographs.

Best for logos, icons, and line art. Photos produce stylized results.
BMP files are uncompressed and can be very large. Consider TIFF (LZW) or PNG for lossless with smaller file sizes.

Why Convert ICO to SVG?
This is the one conversion where ICO is the *interesting* input. Vector output means the mark can go on a business card, a banner or a laser cutter without the 256-pixel ceiling that the icon file imposes.
How to Convert ICO to SVG
Upload your .ico file. A 256-pixel entry traces far better than a 16-pixel one.
The icon is extracted and traced into vector paths. Polygon mode suits flat marks; spline suits rounded ones.
Download the SVG and open it in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or Affinity Designer.
Quality Note
Tracing is an approximation. Flat, high-contrast icon artwork traces cleanly, which is why this works far better on an ICO than on a photograph. Gradients and soft shadows will come out posterised.
