Why Convert ORF to ICO?

A favicon has to read at 16 pixels, so the useful work is choosing which part of the frame survives. The multi-resolution ICO then lets each context pick its own size. Note that Olympus sold its camera division in 2021 and the bodies now ship as OM System, but the file format and the .orf extension carried straight over.

How to Convert ORF to ICO

1

Upload your ORF file. Crop to a single subject first if you can — a full frame is unreadable at 16 pixels.

2

The RAW is decoded and rendered at 16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels, all packed into one ICO.

3

Download the ICO and drop it at your site root as favicon.ico.

💡

Quality Note

The ICO holds 16, 32, 48 and 256 pixel entries. At 16 pixels only one bold shape survives, so crop to a single subject before converting rather than shrinking the whole frame.

Frequently Asked Questions

One multi-resolution file holding 16, 32, 48 and 256 pixel versions, so each context picks its own. The 20 MP Olympus frame is downsampled to each of those sizes rather than cropped to them.

Not without cropping. A full 20 MP frame reduced to 16 pixels is unreadable mush. Crop to one bold subject first — a face, a logo, a single shape — and that element is what the icon can actually show.

The format does, with a full alpha channel, but an ORF is a photograph and has no transparency to carry across. Remove the background first if you want a non-rectangular icon.

No. ICO entries are square, so an Olympus frame is fitted onto a square canvas. Crop to 1:1 yourself beforehand if you want to control what stays in view.
