Why Convert CR2 to TIFF?

TIFF is universally supported by image editors and print shops. Converting CR2 to TIFF creates a lossless file anyone can open.

How to Convert CR2 to TIFF

1

Upload your CR2 file.

2

KoalaPic decodes the RAW sensor data and saves as lossless TIFF.

3

Download the TIFF.

💡

Quality Note

The RAW data is rendered to 8-bit sRGB and stored losslessly. For maximum fidelity, edit the CR2 in dedicated RAW software.

Frequently Asked Questions

For a rendered archive, yes — TIFF stores the decoded image losslessly, so it survives repeated editing and re-saving without artefacts. But neither replaces the CR2 itself, which holds the sensor data both formats discard.

Yes, and that is the main practical reason to convert. A CR2 needs a decoder that understands Canon’s format, while TIFF opens in essentially every imaging application, page-layout tool and print workflow without any plug-in.

8-bit per channel. KoalaPic decodes Canon RAW to 8 bits, so the TIFF carries 16.7 million colours rather than the CR2’s 14-bit depth. That is fine for print delivery; do heavy tonal grading from the CR2 in RAW software instead.

Roughly 90 MB LZW-compressed for a 30.4 MP frame, and about 65 MB from a 22.3 MP 5D Mark III. TIFF stores pixels losslessly, so photographic detail compresses only modestly.
