Why Convert CR2 to BMP?

For legacy applications that require BMP input. TIFF or PNG are usually better lossless alternatives.

How to Convert CR2 to BMP

1

Upload your CR2 file.

2

KoalaPic decodes RAW and saves as uncompressed BMP.

3

Download the BMP.

Quality Note

Lossless container but very large files. Use TIFF for lossless or JPG/AVIF for compact output.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only where a program demands it. BMP stores pixels uncompressed, so it offers nothing over TIFF or PNG in quality while producing far larger files. Legacy Windows software and some embedded display systems are the realistic reasons.

About 91 MB for a 30.4 MP 5D Mark IV frame and roughly 67 MB from a 22.3 MP 5D Mark III. BMP applies no compression at all, so the size is width × height × 3 bytes plus a small header.

The BMP container is lossless, so nothing is lost once decoding is done. The RAW-to-8-bit step happens first and fixes the CR2’s 14-bit latitude into final pixel values — that is where the flexibility goes, not in BMP.

No. BMP has no standard EXIF container, so camera body, lens, exposure settings and GPS coordinates are all discarded. Choose TIFF or JPG if the shooting record needs to travel with the image.
