PEF files from Pentax cameras are 20–40 MB each and open in almost nothing outside a RAW editor. HEIC is the compact alternative: roughly half a JPG's size at the same quality, and native to Apple Photos and iOS.

Lossless format — files can be large
GIF is limited to 256 colors
Best for logos, icons, and line art. Photos produce stylized results.
BMP files are uncompressed and can be very large. Consider TIFF (LZW) or PNG for lossless with smaller file sizes.
Leave empty for all pages. Multi-page PDFs produce a ZIP.

Why Convert PEF to HEIC?
HEIC gives roughly half a JPG's file size at the same visual quality and drops straight into Apple Photos. Outside Apple's ecosystem support is patchier. Note that Pentax bodies can write either PEF or DNG straight out of the camera, so a shooter who picked PEF chose the proprietary option deliberately.
