File too large to upload

2 min read ·

KoalaPic has a 50 MB file size limit for uploads. Here’s what to do if your file exceeds this limit.

Quick fixes

1. Compress first

If your file is a large TIFF, BMP, or PNG, it may be much larger than necessary: - TIFF: Often uncompressed, can be 10-50x larger than a JPG of the same image - BMP: Always uncompressed - PNG: Can be large for photographic content

Try the image compressor first, or open the file in any image viewer and re-save it as JPG, then upload the JPG to KoalaPic for conversion to your desired format.

2. Resize before uploading

If the image has very high resolution (e.g., 8000x6000 from a DSLR), resize it to a smaller dimension before uploading. A 4000x3000 image is typically sufficient for most purposes.

3. Split PDF files

If you’re trying to upload a large PDF, it may contain many pages. Split it into smaller PDFs (fewer pages each) and convert them separately — PDF to JPG splits each page into its own image.

4. Use the API for larger batches

While individual files still have the 50 MB limit, the API’s batch URL conversion endpoint lets you process many files efficiently by providing URLs instead of uploading.

Image resolution limit

Besides file size, KoalaPic also limits images to 100 megapixels (e.g., 10,000 x 10,000). This prevents memory issues during processing. Most cameras produce images well under this limit.
