Only for software that demands it. BMP stores pixels uncompressed, so it offers no quality advantage over TIFF or PNG while producing far larger files. Some older Windows tools and embedded systems accept nothing else, which is the main reason to use it.

About 72 MB, and a 61 MP a7R V frame produces roughly 180 MB. BMP applies no compression at all, so the file is simply width × height × 3 bytes plus a small header — the size follows directly from the sensor resolution.

The BMP container itself is lossless, so nothing is lost after decoding. The RAW-to-8-bit conversion still happens first, which resolves the ARW’s 14-bit exposure latitude into fixed pixel values — that step is where the flexibility goes, not the BMP.

No. BMP has no standard EXIF container, so camera model, lens, exposure settings and GPS coordinates are dropped. If the shooting record matters, choose TIFF or JPG instead, both of which carry the ARW metadata across.
