Convert HEIC to BMP — Uncompressed Output

BMP is an uncompressed raster format from the early Windows era. While it’s been largely replaced by modern formats, some legacy Windows applications, embedded systems, and industrial equipment still require BMP input. Converting iPhone HEIC photos to BMP makes them compatible with these specialized systems.

Why Convert HEIC to BMP?

Legacy Windows software, embedded systems, and some industrial image processing equipment only accept BMP format. Because BMP is uncompressed, it provides raw pixel data that these systems can read without needing a decoder. For most other uses, PNG or JPG are far better choices due to their smaller file sizes.

How to Convert HEIC to BMP

1

Upload your HEIC file by dragging it into the converter or clicking to browse. Files up to 50 MB are supported.

2

KoalaPic decodes the HEIC image and saves it as an uncompressed 24-bit BMP file.

3

Download the BMP file. Both files are automatically deleted after 1 hour.

Quality Note

BMP is uncompressed, so there is zero additional quality loss beyond what HEIC already applied. However, the files are enormous — a 4000×3000 photo becomes approximately 36 MB as BMP. For most use cases, PNG (lossless, compressed) or JPG (small, good quality) are much better choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

BMP stores every pixel without compression. The file size equals roughly width × height × 3 bytes (for 24-bit color). A 12 megapixel photo becomes about 36 MB.

For most uses, PNG is a better lossless format (compressed, smaller) or JPG for photographs (much smaller, great quality). Only use BMP when the target system specifically requires it.

Standard BMP does not support transparency. Any transparent areas from the HEIC source are flattened to a white background.

No. BMP has no standard EXIF container, so camera model, exposure settings and GPS coordinates are all discarded. Choose TIFF, PNG or JPG if that information needs to survive the conversion.
