Convert ICO to JPG — Universal Support

An ICO holds several square icon images in one file. JPG is what you convert to when something refuses an icon file altogether — but JPG has no transparency, so whatever the icon showed against nothing will end up against white.

Why Convert ICO to JPG?

JPG opens in absolutely everything, which is occasionally the only requirement. Accept that transparency is gone and that a 16-pixel entry has nothing to give a photograph-oriented codec — convert the 256-pixel entry or nothing.

How to Convert ICO to JPG

1

Upload your .ico file. Files up to 50 MB are supported, which no icon will approach.

2

The largest entry is extracted and its transparent areas are flattened onto white.

3

Download the JPG. Raise the quality setting first if the mark has fine detail.

💡

Quality Note

JPG is lossy and has no alpha. Transparent pixels are flattened onto white, and at 256 pixels compression artefacts are relatively more visible than they would be on a photograph. Use quality 90 or above.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is flattened onto white, because JPG has no alpha channel at all. If the mark was designed to sit on a coloured background, convert to PNG or WEBP instead and keep the transparency.

Usually because something downstream refuses .ico files — an older content system, a print template, a form that accepts photographs only. JPG is the format nothing turns away.

Acceptable at quality 90 or above. JPG is tuned for photographs, and icon artwork is mostly flat colour and hard edges, which is precisely what its compression handles worst. Keep the quality high.

Yes. The largest entry in the ICO is converted at its own size, typically 256 by 256, and no scaling is applied unless you ask for it with the resize options.
