Convert RW2 to JPG — Free & Instant

RW2 is Panasonic's RAW format, written by the Lumix GH5, GH6 and G9, the full-frame S1 and S5, and the TZ and ZS travel compacts. It holds the sensor reading as the camera captured it, which is what gives you room to edit — and what stops browsers, phones and messaging apps from opening it.

Why Convert RW2 to JPG?

JPG opens everywhere — every browser, email client, phone and photo editor made in the last thirty years. A Panasonic RW2 runs 20–30 MB; the JPG it produces is typically a tenth of that. Note that Panasonic uses RW2 across two very different sensor sizes, so file dimensions vary far more between Lumix bodies than they do within most makers' ranges.

How to Convert RW2 to JPG

1

Upload your RW2 file by dragging it in or clicking to browse. Files up to 50 MB are supported.

2

KoalaPic decodes the Panasonic sensor data using the white balance the camera recorded, then encodes a JPG at quality 85.

3

Download the JPG. Both files are deleted automatically one hour after the conversion.

💡

Quality Note

A Panasonic RW2 holds 12–14 bits per channel; the JPG holds 8. At quality 85 the difference is invisible on screen, but the editing latitude is gone — keep the RW2 if you may want to re-edit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some data goes, but not visibly. An RW2 holds 12–14-bit sensor data and a JPG holds 8-bit, so what you lose is editing latitude rather than apparent sharpness. At quality 85 the two look identical on screen.

RW2 is written by the Lumix GH5, GH6 and G9, the full-frame S1 and S5, and the TZ and ZS travel compacts. If your camera is a Panasonic and you shot RAW rather than JPG, the file on the card is an RW2.

White balance only. KoalaPic decodes the RW2 using the white balance the camera recorded, so colour matches what you saw. Picture modes and creative filters are Panasonic metadata and are not reapplied.

Up to 50 per batch, each up to 50 MB. A Panasonic RW2 runs 20–30 MB, so a full batch fits comfortably and returns as a single ZIP.
