Convert RW2 to PNG — Lossless Quality
RW2 files from Panasonic bodies carry 12–14-bit sensor data that most software cannot read. PNG is the lossless target: everything the demosaic produced survives, at the cost of a file several times larger than a JPG.

Lossless format — files can be large
GIF is limited to 256 colors
Best for logos, icons, and line art. Photos produce stylized results.
BMP files are uncompressed and can be very large. Consider TIFF (LZW) or PNG for lossless with smaller file sizes.

Why Convert RW2 to PNG?
PNG is lossless, so nothing is discarded a second time after the RAW decode. That matters for Micro Four Thirds and full-frame L-mount files headed into further editing, where a JPG's compression artefacts would compound with every save. Note that Panasonic uses RW2 across two very different sensor sizes, so file dimensions vary far more between Lumix bodies than they do within most makers' ranges.
How to Convert RW2 to PNG

Quality Note
The PNG is lossless relative to the decoded image, not to the RW2. The 12–14-bit sensor data is reduced to 8 bits per channel during the demosaic; PNG then preserves that result exactly.
